You can achieve more as a member of a team than you can by yourself. Here is a list of helpful hints that other parents and advocates have expressed as beneficial to their children:

  • People don’t outgrow Learning Disabilities, however they do learn strategies for success;
  • People with Learning Disabilities have the right to learn;
  • Learning Disabilities can run in families and present differently for each individual;
  • People with Learning Disabilities have average to above average intelligence;
  • People with Learning Disabilities can learn to read, write, complete school and go on to successful lives.
  • You understand your child better than anyone else and know they have potential;
  • Do not expect others to understand your concerns;
  • You have the right to ask questions and expect results. Be persistent;
  • You are not alone. Many support groups are available to work with you;
  • There is no need to blame or feel guilty. Simply understand the problem, then work towards a solution;
  • The solution is not an overnight “fix”. It may take years;
  • Your child has a hopeful future.
